The Gents

What follows are a series of figure drawings focusing on the male form. I will start with work done in a figure drawing course at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Art in Chicago under Max Ranft (http://www.maxranft.com/). As you can see, he placed a very strong emphasis on solid understanding of form and proportions, and has had a discernible influence on my figure drawing style. He would never let me move on to rendering a figure, instead, he had me re-start the same pose after each break. A great way to master measuring and proportions.

This series concludes with some more recent work done at the Toronto School of Art over the course of the past few months (whenever I can actually squeeze in the time to get over there!)

Lady drawings...

What follows are a series of studies from a sketchbook in undergrad. For no particular reason, this sketchbook was mostly female figure models, which I have always found more difficult to draw than male models. Here are some highlights of my arduous study of the female form.

yes, it's true, I have attempted anime at one point in time...
and it looks like it seeped its way into this portrait study...those eyes are huge!
